The skilled artisans of Limasan in Central Java cleverly carved Joglo houses using traditional tongue and groove techniques, foregoing any use of nails in the design. Finely carved, the Joglo in Villa Des Indes II is used as a relaxation lounge and is fringed by a lagoon swimming pool, allowing guests to simply step out of a comfortable lounge chair directly into the pool.
Villa Des Indes II has a two storey pavilion housing two master suites complete with bathrooms and separate den libraries full of interesting books on Indonesia. Guests awake on Egyptian cotton sheets surrounded by some of the archipelago’s finest art and antiques. Opening out from the swimming pool is a very large and spacious tropical garden, perfect for families and events.
With passion for preserving and sharing the rich cultural tapestry of Indonesia, the owners have an extensive collection of Balinese and Javanese antiques. One of the most delightful things about residing in both Villa Des Indes Residences is that there is always something fascinating to look at.Having the privilege to not only view but also to be surrounded by these fascinating artifacts is a pleasure in itself. Each piece has its own story; the paintings by famous early artists, the antique Balinese batik and the more modern pieces such as the 1940’s radio as well as numerous original Dutch East Indes travel posters.
Another possible future addition to The Des Indes Collection is the owner’s private island residence off Java. Isle Des Indes, a powder white sand island set off the coast of Java, is reachable via private sailing yacht. Another antique Joglo residence rests amongst the sleepy palms. Currently run as a private residence, the owners are now in discussion on the option of bringing the island to market too.
